As opposed to buying a starter home, then moving out to the burbs, a lot of families seem to be choosing to stay in the urban neighborhoods they love.  This bungalow, located in the very neighborhoody neighborhood of Longfellow, Minneapolis, was in need of an expansion.  Not wanting to just tack on a stucco addition, we devised a plan to extend the framing and then insert a volume within that framework.  The pronounced framing allows the volume to fade to the background a bit, keeping the form of the house visible, while being able to add the extra bedroom and master suite the client required.  The layout take its cue from the existing house, with public spaces to the south, and private spaces to the north.
